The
Session of The Highland Heights Presbyterian Church
Cordova, Tennessee
Confesses that We
Believe: That
Jesus Christ alone is Savior and Lord.
This good news frees us from the tyranny
of false lords and false saviors who have no power to save or liberate
from sin.
That
the salvation that Jesus provides is only through the grace of God
and is received by faith alone in Jesus as He is offered to us in
the Gospel.
This good news frees us from the tyranny of futile attempts
to save ourselves through our good works or through vain dependence
upon other false hopes.
That
the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the unique and
authoritative witness to Jesus Christ and our only infallible rule
of faith and practice.
This good news frees us from the tyranny of lesser authorities
who have no power to show us either the way of salvation or the manner
is which we should live in God's creation.
That
the Bible reveals to us the will of God and enables us to live in ways
that are pleasing to Him and that make for peace and righteousness.
This good news frees us from the tyranny of life styles
that are destructive of persons and human communities.
That
God is calling us to holiness in all aspects of life. This includes
His call to reserve the gift of sexual relations for the covenant of
marriage between a man and a woman.
This good news frees us from the tyranny of anarchy and
chaos in sexual relations that destroy families and blight the happiness
of individuals.
That
the Scriptures and our confessions teach us that persons called to
serve as officers in the church must live lives of discipline and holiness.
This good news frees us from the tyranny of confusion
that results when the Church sets its approval upon open sin by setting
apart persons to office whose unrepentant sinfulness brings shame upon
the Church of Jesus Christ.
We further believe that this confession reflects
the historic faith of the Christian Church and the traditional confessions
of The Presbyterian Church (USA) and is a faithful response to the
challenges to the Christian Faith posed by the times and the culture
in which God has called us to live. Adopted by the Session June 24, 2001
